John Edward "Jack" Sudden

John Edward "Jack" Sudden, 91, passed away November 16, 2018 in Thousand Oaks.  He was born August 12, 1927 in Lompoc, the son of Robert E. and Ava P. Sudden.

He grew up in Lompoc enjoying time on the family's ranch, graduated from Lompoc High School and joined the US Navy. After leaving the Navy he went on to college, attending Menlo college and then on to Stanford University. He graduated in 1950.

John married his first wife, Virginia and had two sons, Robert and Mark. Virginia passed away in 1955. John began work with GTE and met Millie. They were married in 1958 and had their daughter Lynn. They moved to Thousand Oaks in 1961. John resigned from GTE and went to work for the Ventura County Association for the Retarded. He retired in 1982. He loved gardening - especially his roses, spending time with family and friends whenever he could, watching football, and a highball of "Old Granddad" or "Marker's Mark" bourbon. He and Millie enjoyed traveling to different countries around the world but his favorite place to vacation was their second home in South Lake Tahoe.

John is survived by his wife Millie; sons Robert and Mark (Dena); stepson Jerry McClain; daughter Lynn Martinelli (Richard); sister Pat Doubleday; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Robert; mother Ava; brothers William and Charles; and grandson Sean.
