Lorraine Gilliland

Thousand Oaks, CA

Lorraine Marguerite Gilliland, 95, went to be with the Lord September 29, 2018. She was born June 3, 1923 in Omaha, NE to Loren and Mary (Gillotte) Cooper. She was married to Max Frederick Gilliland June 21, 1942 in Omaha and they spent 68 years together until his passing in 2010. They moved to North Hollywood, California in 1954 and to Thousand Oaks in 1978 to be closer to family.

Mom was a homemaker and was thrilled when she was selected Mrs. North Hollywood in 1956. She was also selected to be on one of the first cooking shows on television, the "Chef Milani Show" and made "Hamburger Pie". Mom loved to cook for her family and we always loved to eat her cooking. She also liked to travel to new places, especially by going on cruises. She was never afraid to give her opinion on any subject and loved to visit with friends and family. Family was very important to her and she loved to spend the holidays surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lorraine is survived by her son, Warren and wife, Kathy of Simi Valley; daughter, Mary Hueners and husband David of Thousand Oaks; and a younger brother, John Cooper. Also, five grandchildren, Max (Francine) Gilliland, Shannon (Ricky) Vaught, Robert (Alicia) Hueners, John (Kira) Hueners, Janine (Kevin) Powell; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max, her oldest brother, Warren Cooper, and a son, David Gilliland.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 6 at the church Lorraine dearly loved and attended for 40 years, Ascension Lutheran Church, 1600 E. Hillcrest Dr., Thousand Oaks.

Special thanks to the staff at Thousand Oaks Royale who lovingly cared for her the last three years and Vitas Healthcare the last 3 months. You are loved and will be dearly missed.
