Dorothy (Scholle) James-Challinor

Camarillo, CA

With heavy hearts but with gratitude to God we announce the passing of Dorothy Challinor at age 90. Dorothy passed away peacefully in her Camarillo home surrounded by family on September 16, 2018. She was born on March 29, 1928 in Oxnard, California to Alma Mae Hurt-Scholle and Edward H. Scholle Jr., son of Edward and Elizabeth Krone-Scholle. Edward Scholle Sr. is believed to be the last of the Ventura County pioneers who came from Germany in the 1880's to settle in the Springville Ranching area. Dorothy grew up on the Scholle Ranch in Camarillo and graduated from St. Catherine's High School in Ventura, California. She professed her life to Christ at an early age and was a lifetime parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen.

Dorothy was a life-long resident of Ventura County, raised her family in Camarillo and continued ranching until her retirement in 2013 at age 85.

In 1984, Dorothy married the late Bill Challinor. Together, they had 7 years of adventures: dancing together, visiting family, traveling the country in their RV, and making new friends everywhere they stopped. Sadly, Bill passed in 1991. It was said of Dorothy, "She never knew a stranger and could spark up a conversation with anyone she met."

Dorothy loved and lived every moment she was given. She will be remembered as a selfless, funny, loving and caring person. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She always thought about others first. She has touched the hearts of many.

Dorothy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Doug and Sandy James; daughter Joyce Scarpa; grandchildren Chantelle Shepard, Justin and Carrie Shepard, Brian and Lauren Wheat, and Adam Wheat; great grandchildren Breanna, Steven, Christian, Kaylee, Ryder, Hayden, Peyton, Ava, and Kashton; sister Helen Pearson; nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 24 at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 25 N. Las Posas Rd., Camarillo. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 N. H St., Oxnard.

The family would like to thank Sheila and Diane; caretakers, companions and friends for their years of compassion, love and care.

Thank you to the Doctors that have cared for Dorothy and made a dramatic impact on her quality of life over the years, particularly, Dr. Afrouz Gerayli, Dr. Stan Jensen, Dr. Edmond Dooman and Dr. Joseph Cabaret and their staff. And a most heartfelt thank you to the hospice team of Livingston Memorial VNA.

Donations in Dorothy's name may be made to The American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
