Elmer W. Schulze passed away suddenly Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the age of 89.

Elmer was born on a farm in Chelsea, OK July 28, 1929. After graduation from Chelsea High School at the age of 17 he joined the Marine Corps serving his country at the end of WWII and also during the Korean War Conflict. He then settled in Tulsa, OK and met the love of his life, Viola Ruth Nelson at a church picnic. They married in 1952 and both worked for American Airlines. They moved to Newbury Park with their two small children in 1963 with Elmer joining Continental Airlines. They were charter members of Christ the King Lutheran Church with Elmer serving his Lord in many capacities including president of the congregation, trustee and elder.

Elmer enjoyed playing fast-pitch and slo-pitch softball with the Thousand Oaks Church softball leagues in his younger days. He loved working for the airlines and he and Vi traveled to many countries during their 66 years of marriage. Although in declining health the last few years, Elmer loved to play cards, especially pinochle. He also enjoyed his Popeye's Chicken. A special thanks to the Popeye's Chicken in Westlake Village for all of their kindnesses extended to Elmer and Vi. Also, a special thank you to Mike & Bertha Trejo and Priscilla of the Sunshine Manor in Thousand Oaks for their loving care of Elmer the past two years. Elmer has gone to be with his Lord and is having a glorious reunion with a host of family and friends in heaven.

Elmer is survived by his wife Vi of Thousand Oaks; daughter Debbie of Schaumburg, IL; son Dave (Mary) of Sand Springs, OK; grandson David (Meghan) and great grandchildren Emma and Andy Schulze of Edmond, OK; granddaughter Katie Bair (Addison) of Broken Arrow, OK; and sisters Bertha Willcutt and Marcella Brasel of Claremore, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Louisa Schulze, sister Martha Garbe and brothers George and Oscar Schulze.

Funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 15 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 3947 W. Kimber Dr., Newbury Park. There will be a reception/light meal served immediately following the service.

Donations in Elmer's memory may be made to the Lutheran Hour Ministries, Lutheran World Relief, the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
