James Howard Corbett

Camarillo, CA

James was born to the late Thomas and Tressey Corbett in Louisiana on April 24, 1924 and passed away on July 20, 2018 in the last home he built in Camarillo at the age of 94. His older brother, Thomas, Jr. is also deceased. The family moved to California when the boys were very young and lived in several Southern California communities settling in the San Fernando Valley during the depression.

James earned the rank of Corporal while serving in the Army-Air Force during World War II from 1943 - 1946 as an airplane mechanic stationed in Alaska.

Returning home, he worked under several different building trade contractors. Earning a general contractors license, he worked many years as a carpenter and built several custom homes in the San Fernando and Santa Rosa Valleys.

In the late 1960's he went to work at Point Mugu in the civil service position of carpenter and retired from there in 1986 as a saw filer and managing the tool room.

In his lifetime he spent much time reading and pursuing the teachings of J. Krishnamurti.

He enjoyed vegetable gardening and furnishing family and friends with an abundance of fresh produce from his labors. He was a man of many talents, abilities and "hats". Everyone who knew him will remember his "unique" sense of humor.

In 1958 he married his wife of 59 years, Janet. They have three children: daughter, Audrey and sons, Ray and Reed (deceased). In addition, he leaves four granddaughters: Leann, Raechel, Mariel and Amanda; two great grandchildren: Lindsey and Jacob, with another on the way; nieces, cousins and friends who miss him greatly.

He was very low-key with celebrations but a memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 25 at Griffin Family Funeral Chapels, 1075 E. Daily Dr., Camarillo.
