Sister Mary Emilie Ann Palladino, SND

Thousand Oaks, CA

Sister Mary Emilie Ann Palladino, SND, 75, died Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Mary, Health of the Sick, in Thousand Oaks. She was born July 9, 1942 in Cleveland, OH and was a fourteen-year Ventura County resident.

Emilie Anne met the Sisters of Notre Dame as a third grader at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School in Seven Hills, OH. Upon completion of her first year of college, she entered the community and began her life as a Sister of Notre Dame, receiving the name Sister Mary Nunzio in honor of her father. Sister later returned to her Baptismal name, Sister Mary Emilie Ann. In 1980, Sister transferred to the California province in order to be closer to her family.

Although Sister Mary Emilie Ann spent thirty years as a high school teacher both in Ohio and Southern California, her nearly three decades of Pastoral Ministry, principally at Our Lady of Grace Parish in Encino, was especially meaningful to her. "As an Adult Faith Formation Minister, I am able to empower parish members to grow in living their Faith, their knowledge of their Faith, and to articulate their Faith to others who come into their lives."

As a child, Sister Mary Emilie Ann's parents instilled in her an appreciation of fine art through visits to various museums in the Cleveland area. She carried this interest into her adult life, taking art lessons in her free time. Sister was also a published author in the area of group dynamics and Faith formation as well as a world traveler, which deepened her appreciation of the congregation's internationality. Besides spending a year in Rome teaching at the SND high school there, she participated in several pilgrimages to historic places of the congregation, to the Holy Land, and was a Fulbright Scholar in India. Sister Emilie Ann's world view was enlarged by these experiences and this, in turn, enabled her to live the motto of St. Julie Billiart, "We must have hearts as wide as the world."

She is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron and Julie Palladino and Tom and Chris Palladino; and nephews Ken, Nick, and Brian.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, April 21 at the Notre Dame Center Chapel, 1776 Hendrix Ave., Thousand Oaks. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on the same day. Msgr. Jarlath Cunnane will officiate. Interment will take place at 9:30 a.m., Monday, April 23 at Assumption Cemetery, Simi Valley.

Memorial contributions in honor of Sister Mary Emilie Ann may be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame Retirement Fund, 1776 Hendrix Ave., Thousand Oaks, CA 91360.
