Donald Harley Brockett, Ed.D

Camarillo, CA

Don was born February 1, 1940 and passed away peacefully March 31, 2018 - late Holy Saturday evening. He graduated from Anaheim High School in 1957 and then attended Long Beach City College. He was recruited out of Long Beach to play Football for Fresno State College where he earned his Physical Education degrees: a Bachelor of Art in 1962 and a Masters of Art in 1968. One of Don's fondest memories from college was playing Center for the Fresno State Bulldogs and his team winning the Mercy Bowl in 1961. He was nominated as the team's most valuable senior. He went on to earn his teaching credentials and begin his career in Education.

His early career began as a faculty member at Camarillo High School in 1964, and then he helped to start Rio Mesa High School in 1965. In 1970, he went to work and coached football and women's track at Moorpark College and earned his Ed.D from Brigham Young University in 1979. He went to Oxnard College in 1985 as Athletic Director and then became the Dean of Language, Arts, Math, and Science Departments. He retired in 2000 after 36 years in education.

Don was an avid rock-hound who was interested in geology and California Indian artifacts. He taught his children at a young age to always be on the lookout for rocks, fossils, shells, beads, and pottery shards whenever they were at the beach or on their many rock hunts.

Don is survived by his children, Brant and Judi Brockett of San Diego, CA, Brynn and Bryan Stotko of Camarillo, CA, as well as his five grandchildren: Braydon, Hailey, Baylor, Riley and Madison. He leaves behind his devoted friend, and former wife, Gail Brockett, Camarillo, CA, as well as his brother Harvey Brockett, and sister Debbie Groff and their families.

The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staffs at Royal Gardens of Camarillo and Silverado Ventura Hospice.

A memorial service for family and close friends is scheduled.
