Norma Jean Lipman Coony died peacefully in Simi Valley, CA at the age of 98.

Norma was born in New Jersey on March 13, 1919 to parents Isaac Birkhahn Lipman and Helen Phillips Lipman. She was raised on a fruit farm in Washington Crossing, New Jersey. She attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY with a certificate in Nutrition and graduated with a degree in Foods and Nutrition from New York University. Her many jobs included working as a dietician and food services supervisor in hospitals and government facilites for juvelines in New Jersey and Delaware. Norma also worked for the US Navy as a civilian aircraft inspector of the Grumman TBM Aircraft during WWII. Her main career was working in Public Social Services both in New Jersey and San Bernardino, retiring in 1983.

Norma married Alfred Francis Coony in San Bernardino in 1967. They lived in San Bernardino County until after Frank had retired as Economic Development Director of San Bernardino County in 1985. One of Norma's most rewarding experiences was serving on the San Bernardino County Grand Jury from 1985-1986 and was a Charter Member of the California State Grand Jurors Association. After retirement, Norma and Frank moved to Simi Valley to be close to her brother and his wife Bob and Betty Lipman.

Norma was a spelunker when living back east and was a Fellow in the National Speleological Society. She was passionate about emergency preparedness and was the Disaster Preparedness Coordinator for the Spring Valley Lake Chamber of Commerce. Throughout her life, Norma was extremely active in volunteering her time to various groups. Among those were Meals on Wheels, Lifeline and Council on Aging. Norma was given the Wayne Templeton Award for her many years of volunteer participation at the Simi Valley Senior Center. One of Norma's favorite places to volunteer was at the Kaiser Family Practice, which she was with for over 20 years.

Norma is survived by her sister Ina Harris of Eureka, California and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Coony, her brother Robert Lipman and sister Marilyn Gossett.

The family would like to thank Robin Gagliano for her dedication and care of Norma in the last years of her life.
