Maureen Louise Duffy Wachold

Thousand Oaks, CA

Heaven gained another angel on Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 when our beautiful mother, Maureen Louise Duffy Wachold, 90, of Thousand Oaks, passed away, surrounded by her loving family.

Mom was born in Youngstown, Ohio on April 1, 1927, the second of nine children. She grew up in Pittsburgh, PA., and while she had various jobs growing up, Mom always said that her favorite was working as an elevator operator in a grand hotel.

She eventually moved to California, and while working at Point Mugu NAS, she met her one true love, her husband George. They married on New Year’s Eve 1949, and adopted four children.

Mom had a great big loving heart and was quick to reach out whenever and wherever help was needed. She was very involved with her church and the Young Ladies Institute (YLI), and was a Hospice volunteer for many years. She and my father received the 1998 Apple of Excellence in Health Care Award as Volunteers of the Year. Mom was a true lady, with impeccable style and grace. Her beautiful blue eyes would sparkle with both laughter and Irish tenacity, and her lovely smile was instantly contagious.

Her sincere friendliness made everyone who met her feel as though they had known her forever. Mom had countless friends who loved her, and she loved them right back. She will be deeply missed by all.

Mom is survived by three children: Shelli, Patti and Tom; 9 grandchildren: Lorin, Sierra, Daniel, George, Brendan, Ashley, Ben, Mackenzie and Taylor; and 6 great-grandchildren: Shelby, Gerald, Miranda, JT, Isis and Cade. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Josephine Duffy; her loving husband George; her son George; and her sisters Pat, Joan, Eileen Colleen, Ann, and Kathy.

A celebration of her life will take place on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 25 N. Las Posas Road, Camarillo. Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Santa Clara cemetery, 2370 N. H St., Oxnard.
