Robin L. Norris

Camarillo, CA

Robin L. Norris, 92, passed away at home early Saturday morning after a short illness, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Pomona, California on October 23, 1924, Robin’s formative years were spent in Avenal, California, in the San Joaquin Valley. After graduating high school, she bravely enlisted in the Waves (Navy) at the minimum age. It was 1944, the height of World War II. She was stationed at Moffett Field, where she met her husband-to-be, Henry Norris.

Robin and Henry were married on Valentine’s Day, 1948, while Hank was on Spring Break from UCLA, which he attended before and after serving in the U.S. Navy. The two set up a household in Burbank, California, where they happily had three sons, Gary (wife, Debbie), Gordon (wife, Louise) and Robert (wife, Patricia). When the boys were in school, they had a home built in Sunland, California, where they all enjoyed many happy years.

When Henry worked as an engineering project manager of several launches at Jet Propulsion Lab, Robin became an entertainer extraordinaire. She was always successfully trying new recipes at each dinner party they hosted, and was undaunted hosting anyone, from United States Admirals to the heads of european space agencies. Robin was a courageous woman in life and in death.

When Henry retired, Robin and Hank moved to Camarillo to be neared their oldest son, Gary, and his family. Both before and after retirement, travel was an important part of Henry and Robin’s life. They saw almost every country in Europe and beyond. Had Henry’s health lasted, they likely would have visited every continent; but Hank passed away in 2006. Robin was able to stay in that home for nearly 30 years, where she was visited by her entire family at different times. She remains the beloved grandmother of Tiffany Gemetta (Jeremy), Sabrina Kleinman (Joshua), Jonathan Norris (Katie Bishop), Brooke Reedlunn (Ben), Cameron Norris (Tiffany), Katie Norris and Brenna Norris. Robin leaves behind ten loving great-grandchildren, including Noah, Sam, Ainsley, Elise, Linnaea, Caleb, Cambria, Jack, Auggie and Liam, who came into the world only days before she departed, yet brightened her last days.

A special thank you to all the Care at Home caregivers who attended to Robin in her final days. You are all greatly appreciated, especially Emma Tan, whom she dearly loved.

A kind, gentle, loving soul, our mom will be truly missed!

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 30 at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Rd., Ventura. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
