Clifford Frederick Hales

Camarillo, CA

Clifford Frederick Hales, 79, long-time Camarillo resident, retired registered nurse at Camarillo State Hospital, outdoorsman, avid fisherman and hunter, Army Reservist and, above all, beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on the morning of June 16, 2017 in Oxnard, CA.

Clifford was born in Shell Lake, Wisconsin to Clifford Sidenham Hales and Velma Burmeister. They moved to San Bernardino, California in 1946, where twenty years later he would meet his wife, Marilyn Galante. They married in 1968. He earned his AA degree in nursing in 1970. The young family moved to Camarillo in 1975, when Clifford was promoted to a position at Camarillo State Hospital. Clifford was an avid outdoorsman and accomplished marksman who loved fishing and camping and sharing his passion for the outdoors with friends and generations of his family. He was a bedrock, a devoted husband and father, raising his daughters and then two granddaughters after the premature death of his eldest daughter. Through thick and thin, Clifford was an amazing example of a positive, steady, and easygoing person. With a twinkle in his eye and a warm-hearted smile, Clifford touched many lives with his friendly nature. He will never be forgotten.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marilyn Hales; sisters Dolores Carper and Sharon Drobny; daughter Katrina Hales-Garcia; grandchildren Alexandra Maciel, Ashley Davidson, Mara and Mateo Hales-Garcia and great-grandchildren Nevia Lopez-Maciel, and Coral Lyn and Dove Alara Davidson. He is preceded in death by his daughter Tamara Hales.

His family welcomes friends to attend funeral services Friday June 23, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. with visitation at beginning at noon at Griffin Family Funeral Chapels, 1075 E. Daily Drive, Camarillo. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Ducks Unlimited, Clifford's favorite charity.
